Underground River Entrance

IMG_0114We went on an underground river tour, we got on 2 kinds of boats. To get to the area were the underground river we got a motorized boat. And then we got a paddle boat going through the cave. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The full river is 8.2 km (5.1 mi) long underground. The river winds through the cave before flowing directly into the West Philippine Sea and we could only go by boat 4.3 km (2.7 mi) in from the sea. Many scientists are carrying out experiments on this special place.

Waiting for the motorboat

Waiting for the motorboat

Underground riverThere were thousands of insect bats flying around in the cave. 2 of the bats attacked me. My mam and sister ducked for cover because they were in the front of the paddle boat.at one point there were a 1000s of bats overhead on a rock that was shaped like a whales belly. It smelt like bat poo and salty water the deeper we went in the better the smell got. At the start Sibéal was holding her nose and saying “ewe”.
The cave has many stalagmites and stalactites. Our guide showed us many sections of the cave one of them was called the bat cave and he said we were not allowed in because we weren’t Batman or Robin. My Mam and Sister sat in the front seats of the Paddle Boat and my Dad and I sat behind them in the 2nd row of seats. Between us we all got to hold and operate the spotlight for our tour guide who was steering the boat at the back.

There were about 30 or 40 different rock formations there was one that looked like half a Jesus face and another one looked like it as the holy family one whole area was called the cathedral. There was also a fruit and veg section where rocks looked like mushroom, chicken leg, eggplant and carrot.

My guide was called Sunshine Happiness , she was very nice. I would recommend the trip to the underground river to people because it was very interesting and fun.
